The 160th Tiverton Fall Fair opted to go virtual with most of its events in 2021, offering a variety of contests including cake and pie decorating, pet photos and videos, rural novelties and flowers. The cake competition was themed “happy birthday” in celebration of the fair’s 160th anniversary. Participants were encouraged to send photos to the fair, giving them the opportunity to win cash prizes.

The Tiverton Agricultural Society also offered an apple craft package, available for pick up on Oct. 2 at the Tiverton Lions Park. Volunteers brought in a number of yard games that could be safely played by local children.

A local cookbook was compiled and is now available for sale by contacting Dianne Atkinson at 226-930-1979. Besides favourite recipes, the book includes cooking tips and tricks for the home as well as a few humorous cartoons. Each cookbook is $20.

“This year has been hard, because people are tired and frustrated,” said Agricultural Society president Anne-Marie Gomes. “There just hasn’t been the same kind of excitement, based on limitations.”

As for 2022, the Society has been considering ideas.

“We’ve already got some stuff in the works for next year, things we haven’t done previously,” said Gomes. “We have looked at collaborating with some other organizations.”

Right now, the Tiverton Agricultural Society Facebook page is the main source of information and updates, said Gomes. The Society plans to expand its social media presence by posting on other platforms in order to be more accessible.
