GREY-BRUCE – Rain is not the only thing that makes for a bountiful harvest – sunshine is also necessary. And while this area has had more than enough of the former, that’s not the case for the latter. Chris Cossitt, president of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture, said that the wheat is off; quantity-wise, it was over average to a bit above average. However, there were quality issues due to
the rain.
Now the soybean harvest is about to begin, and Cossitt said it’s hard to predict how it’s going to go. The crop looks good, but there could be some issues with moulds – rainfall, again. “Until we get the combines in the fields, it’s difficult to know where it’s going to go.”
