For the 39th year, communities across the country will walk, run or bike in the Terry Fox Run, to raise money for the fight against cancer. In Kincardine, this fundraiser has been an annual event for at least 25 years.
On Sept. 15, registration will open at 9 a.m. and the event will begin at 10 a.m. After a loop around the track at the Davidson Centre, the group of 80-90 walkers, led by pipers, will participate in either the five kilometre or 10 kilometre route.
The fundraising goal for 2019 is $10,000. Last year the event raised approximately $13,000 and received recognition as the committee surpassed the $250,000 mark in total money raised.
For the first time this year, the committee will be using the Davidson Centre track for families or people that might have mobility issues. For each lap around the track, the participant will be awarded a bead. Completing five laps on the track equals two kilometres. Once the walk is completed, the beads can be strung on to a lace that will be provided by the organizers and have a memento of the day.
The Kincardine Terry Fox Run is a rain or shine event. Information and registration is available on the www.terryfox.org site, or Kincardine Terry Fox Run on Facebook.
