Submitted by the Kincardine & District Chamber of Commerce
Excitement is building as the date of the Kincardine & District Chamber of Commerce Santa Claus Parade approaches. It will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3 starting at 4 p.m.
This year’s theme, Bright Lights & Christmas Delights, was chosen from about two dozen themes submitted during a “Name our Parade” contest on social media. Shannon Allen submitted the winning theme and won $50 in BIA Bucks, provided by Lakeside Downtown Kincardine. Honourable mention, and $25 in BIA Bucks, was awarded to Mrs. Nancekivell’s Grade 3/4 class for their submission, Travelling to the North Pole.
Local businesses and organizations, set on spreading holiday cheer, have been busily decorating their floats and vehicles, in preparation for this beloved holiday event. Businesses, schools and organizations that wish to put a float in the parade can email to director@kincardinechamber.com for a registration form.
This year’s parade will have a new starting point. Floats will assemble at Connaught Park and begin their journey up Broadway Avenue to Queen Street, then south on Queen Street to Victoria Park. Residents are invited to gather safely along the side of the road to watch the more than 30 floats drive by and can follow it to Victoria Park to hear the carolers afterwards. Santa will hand out candy, so be sure to bring your phones and cameras for a selfie with the man in red!
As in previous years, donations of non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted, and be turned over to the Kincardine Food Bank, to help fill its shelves during this busy holiday season.
