Ben Brewer won OFSAA gold in midget shot put and the discus throw at the University of Guelph last week. This is a big accomplishment for Ben. There have not been a whole lot of local OFSAA champs over the years. In OFSAA West, Ben won both the shot put and the discus. Shayne McCarthy placed seventh in the senior boys 200-metre. Jordan Moulton came eighth in the junior boys’ discus, which was a personal best. Liam Fitzgerald finished 13th in the senior boys 1,500-metre. Tegan Vander Hock was 14th in the midget girls javelin. OFSAA west includes WOSSA, SWOSSA and CWOSSA which includes Windsor, London, Kitchener and Waterloo. This is a great accomplishment from these local high school athletes. *Our local midget OBA baseball team had a good weekend at Connaught Park. They won the tournament with a comeback win in the bottom of the seventh inning, to edge out a good Kitchener team in the final on Sunday, by a score of 7-6. Cam Lamont had two timely doubles in the final game. Jordan Beisel also hit a home run over the right field fence. Jordan Beisel threw a no-hitter in the first game in a 7-0 win over Markham. They won game two 14-4 over North London. Ethan Cutting picked up the win. On Saturday night, Tanner Reid, Anthony Travale and James Greenwood all pitched well to combine for the win. On Sunday morning in the semi-final, the midgets blanked Woodstock with a solid defensive game. The Kincardine peewee team went 1-2 in the round robin and lost in the semi-final to Bradford in a hard fought 11-9 game. They defeated Saugeen River Bandits 5-1 on Friday night. Then on Saturday, the peewees lost 11-3 to Mitchell and 8-2 to Bradford. Mitchell won the final over Bradford, defeating them 11-10 with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
