ANTOON “TONY” KLOOSTERBOER
Antoon “Tony” Johan Kloosterboer, of Kincardine, passed away peacefully at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Kincardine on Feb. 20, 2020 in his 100th year.
Beloved husband of the late Hendrika “Hentje” Kloosterboer (nee Brummelman – 2012).
Dear father of Dinie Kloosterboer (Blaine Belecki) of Cobble Hill, B.C., John (Mary) Kloosterboer of Kincardine, Alice Kloosterboer (Greg Harms) of Vancouver B.C., and Don Kloosterboer (Nancy Rutledge) of Port Albert.
Sadly missed by his grandchildren Katie Kloosterboer (Darrin Swarts), Adrian, Simon and Gavin Harms, Jamie Kloosterboer (Amanda Knight), Mike Kloosterboer (Caitlin Agnew), Shelley Kloosterboer and great-grandchildren Lexi, Addy, Ellie, Gus, and Ben.
Fondly remembered by his former daughter-in-law Sue Kloosterboer of Kincardine and Tony’s many Canadian and Dutch friends.
Tony was a man of the land his whole life. He was born in The Netherlands in 1920, on a farm near Almen, and raised with three brothers. Tony continued to work his parents’ farm after marrying Hentje in 1951, and in 1954 Tony pursued his dream and immigrated to the New World with Hentje, their one-year old daughter, Dinie, and just $500 in cash. Crates of household goods followed by slow boat. Tony and Hentje became successful dairy farmers in Bruce County; quick to adopt modern farming technology: installing a milk pipeline, field drainage, a stable cleaner and more. With Hentje, he enjoyed Ontario camping trips, card parties with his Dutch friends, and winters in Florida. Into his mid -90s, Tony rode his bike throughout the countryside checking out the land and the crops. Until his last week, there was never a conversation without mention of the weather.
A celebration of Tony’s life will take place on February 28 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Trillium Court, 555 Philip Place, Kincardine.
Memorial donations to the Kincardine Trails (Kincardine to Inverhuron trail), Huron Shores Hospice, Kincardine Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
