Obituary Theodore “Ted” Van Erp

THEODORE VAN ERP

Theodore William “Ted” Van Erp of Point Clark passed away at Huron Shores Hospice on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at age 75.
Beloved husband of Margriet (née Spoenlein) for over 41 years.
Dear father of Hellaina (Jarren) and Jason (Jennifer).
Loving Opa to Patricia, Jackson, Ethan, Peyton, Kiersten and Kloe.
Survived by his brothers John Verhulst and John Van Erp.
Predeceased by his parents John and Helena (née Verhulst) Van Erp and sister Catherina “Toni” Kostuik.
Ted and his family came to Canada onboard the ship Zuiderkruis in 1952. He lived and worked in Toronto and married Margriet in 1981. Together they enjoyed the many decades with family, friends and relatives in Kitchener and at the cottage in Point Clark. Ted had a long career as a press operator with Ashton Potter Litho in Toronto and continued working in the industry until retirement to Point Clark in 2002. He and Margriet shared these past years as owners of the SeeView Gallery, managing their building in downtown Kincardine, along with warm winters in Florida.
A life-long sports enthusiast, Ted played hockey for decades, from childhood through to the Scarboro Stingers Oldtimers Hockey and the Kincardine Huffers and Puffers. He enjoyed the occasional ski trip with friends and family, looked forward to annual golf trips to the Carolinas, and joined the local senior’s softball league “The Do-Overs” in Kincardine and Point Clark; he will be missed by his many baseball buddies. He remained an ardent armchair fan to hockey, golf, car racing and baseball.
Ted will be remembered for his kindness, his Catholic faith, his willingness to help others with projects and as a great handyman. He was fun-loving and good friend to many, an especially wonderful dad, opa and husband.
Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home in Kincardine from 11 – 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023, followed by the funeral mass at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Kincardine.
Final resting place: Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Vincent de Paul – Kincardine would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Portrait and memorial available online at www.daveylinklaterfuneralhome.com.
