Michael Hogeveen
June 7, 1983 – July 26, 2024
Michael William Hogeveen passed away on July 26, 2024 at the age of 41 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.
Beloved son of William and Corinne Hogeveen.
Cherished brother to Michelle and Brian, Melissa and Ryan, and Melanie and Jamie. He was a devoted uncle to Alexander, Tanysa, Vanessa, Emma, Sarah, Jamieson, Benjamin and Noah. Michael’s love for his nieces and nephews was boundless, and he always found joy in spending time with them.
Mike was a man of extraordinary talent, a gifted actor who could light up any room with his presence. His wit and intelligence were second to none, and he had a unique ability to make others laugh, often turning the mundane into the magical with just a few words.
Mike was not only entertaining but also a hard worker, driven by a passion for everything he undertook. Whether it was travelling to new and exciting places, tending to his beloved garden, or hitting the tennis court, he embraced life with vigor and enthusiasm. He found joy in the simple pleasures of walking in nature and the thrill of exploring the world, always eager for the next adventure.
In his social life, Mike was the life of the party, bringing energy and excitement wherever he went. He was a man who valued his independence and was always in control of his own destiny. Yet, he never shied away from a good debate, relishing the opportunity to learn and educate others. His sharp mind and eloquent speech made him a formidable conversationalist, always ready to challenge and inspire those around him.
Mike’s journey was not always easy, but his charm and humour endeared him to all who knew him. Mike’s love for entertaining was evident throughout the year. His favorite day of the year brought out whimsical costumes and magical Halloween decorations that attracted hundreds of kids from around his neighbourhood.
Michael’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. His legacy of laughter, hard work, and love will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A private celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sick Kids Foundation would be appreciated by his family.
