MARJORIE KIRKCONNELL

Marjorie Ruth Kirkconnell (née Kerr) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022 at Trillium Court in Kincardine, in her 96th year.
Loving mother of Dennis (Connie) Kirkconnell of London, Betty (Jake) Hunter of Kincardine, Brad (Faye) Kirkconnell of Kincardine, and Nancy (Bill) Stewart of Kincardine.
Marjorie loved and cherished all nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her loving husband James Kirkconnell (1991) and grandson Baren Stewart (2021).
Born to Donald and Annie Kerr in Kincardine, Marjorie was the youngest of five sisters and spent the early part of her childhood minding her nephews and nieces. Marj then met Jim, a strapping young lad, who was working on the family farm outside of Tiverton, who later went into the autobody business.
Marjorie’s working career included time working at the Bruce Inn for the MacKenzie family, the Circle Bar Knitting Mill, and making airplane wings at Malcolm Lumber during the Second World War. She then secured a position at the Kincardine Hospital and worked her way up to become an X-ray technician. If you had a broken bone during her time in the X-ray department chances are she either took the X-ray, put your cast on or cut your cast off. Her 27-year career at the hospital was very rewarding to her as she enjoyed working firsthand with the doctors, nurses and hospital staff and took great satisfaction in her part in setting patients on their road to recovery.
Retirement brought an inground pool in the backyard and much travel. After Jim passed, Marj and life-long friend Betty Wittig took to travelling even more – touring parts of Asia and North America. Marjorie had a soft spot for animals. She loved it when her family dropped by with their dogs, and she always had treats on hand to welcome them.
Mother had a volunteerism spirit. She was an active Legion Ladies Axillary member helping with events at the Kincardine Legion. She was also spent time as a member of the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary, delivered Meal on Wheels to those in need and supported the Bruce Shrine Club. Marjorie was a proud and founding member of the Lighthouse Fellowship Baptist Church.
One never wondered what mother (or Gramma Kirk) was thinking about as she was very direct. At the same time, she had this huge aching heart for family, friends and pets. She will be forever remembered for the latter. Special thanks to Dr. Gurbin for his care and house visits and to the staff at Trillium Court for their attentive care.
A memorial service was held for Marjorie at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
