John David Hill of Kincardine passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 18, 2023, with his family by his side, in his 97th year.
Cherished husband of the late Barbara Hill (née Spooner).
Beloved father of James Hill (Lillian), Doug Hill (Karen), Donna Neyvatte (Mark), Marjorie Reid (Bob), Carol Gray (Rob), Ellen Guiler and Ron Hill (Sandy).
John will be greatly missed by his 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Predeceased by his grandchildren, Jason and Kyle.
John was a proud veteran of the Second World War, having served with the Canadian Navy. He was an avid car enthusiast and a fixture at car shows with his 1960 Studebaker. He was an active member in the community as a Legion member & former Canadian Tire dealer. John had a love/hate relationship with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but enjoyed the Toronto Blue Jays most days! His love of golfing took him all over Ontario & parts of the United States. He was an avid hunter & fisherman who volunteered for many years at the Kincardine Fish Hatchery. Watching his feathered friends and keeping the squirrels at bay was a daily ritual. His greatest joy in life was being a part of the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Visitation was held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home in Kincardine on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a Legion memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral service to honour John`s life was held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
Interment Kincardine Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Lake Huron Fishing Club (Kincardine Fish Hatchery) or Canadian Tire Jump Start appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
