Obituary – John E. Jacob

JOHN EDWARD JACOB
Dec. 17, 1949 – Aug. 15, 2024

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of John E. Jacob in Redwater, Alberta.
John is survived by his elder sister Joyce (Rick) Greenaway and nephew Donnie Greenaway of Sebringville, Ontario, and by two younger brothers: Richard (Pia) Jacob, of Redwater, Alberta and Stephen (Colleen Joy) Jacob, of Bayfield, Ontario.
John was predeceased by his father Edward Jacob, his mother Freda Jacob and nephew Brian Greenaway.
John was born in Droxford, England. The Jacob family departed England and immigrated to Canada in 1956. They moved to various locations across the country as his father was a cowman who tended cattle at many farms, starting in Southwestern, Ontario at a sponsored farm. His father met the Maus family from Ayr, Ontario, and confirmed his employment with the Maus beef farms in the Kincardine area.
John attended Kincardine and District High School, where he was active in sports and the chess club, graduating in 1969. After graduation, John was employed with the infamous Fred Herd Delivery Service. In late 1973, he moved to Edmonton, Alberta and began working in the Switching Yards for CN Rail. Over the years, John worked in many fields and eventually decided to become a licensed carpenter.
After his long and colourful tenure in Edmonton, John settled in Redwater, Alberta (45 minutes NE of the city) and purchased a house only a couple blocks from his younger brother John, where they could enjoy the companionship and social get-togethers for meals and barbecues. John enjoyed the slower pace of life and became part of the fabric of this small town with its many new friends and neighbours.
John’s body has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a later date. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024 at the South Side Memorial Chapel in Edmonton.
John has left us now, but his memory will never be forgotten by those who knew him well!
