Obituary – Jean Scott

JEAN SCOTT

Jean Helen Scott (née Clark) died peacefully in her sleep at Tiverton Park Manor on Dec. 23, 2024, in her 100th year.
Born in Midland, Ontario on Jan. 29, 1925, she was the daughter of Henry Clark and Annie (née Collins). She married Andrew Scott on June 10, 1944 and together they raised their daughter and three sons on the 100-acre mixed farm on Concession 9 of Kincardine Township.
Her love of painting resulted in numerous oils being shared across the community, including a version of the Inverhuron Lime Kiln donated to the Municipality of Kincardine; many trucks, buses and barns painted with owners’ names; and multiple signs that adorned various family farms and one of the early versions of ‘Welcome to Kincardine’ signs.
Circa 1968, she moved to Kincardine where her employment at Coombs Furniture Factory and Malcolm’s furniture factory also involved decorative painting of the heirloom furniture products. Eventual employment at the Bruce Generating Station resulted in a modest pension, which she used to visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren wherever on the globe they happened to be.
More recently, she lived independently in Kincardine for several years. She loved winning at euchre and shooter cards and her passion for knitting resulted in several hundreds of gifts for family and friends.
Jean moved in with her daughter during COVID before making a final move to Tiverton Park Manor in 2023, to enjoy being totally waited on by the helpful staff who cared for her there.
Predeceased by her parents Henry and Annie Clark, stepfather Edward Schaeffer, infant sister Elsie Clark, sister Annie Mount, her divorced husband Andrew Scott, son-in-law Harvey Orr, son Ronald and grandson Matthew.
She is survived by daughter Margaret Ann Orr, daughter-in-law Shirley Scott, son Robert (Sari) and son Peter (Lynn), grandchildren Doug Orr (Melanie), Rick Orr, Andrew Scott, Todd Scott, Blake Scott, Craig (Alisha) and Ryan Scott and their families, which count nine great-grandchildren and multiple step-great grandchildren.
During life on the farm, Jean became a close friend of her neighbour Lois Craig. Their lives became intertwined. Mom cherished the many exploits of regular Craig family events that kept her young and engaged with the lives of honourary grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation took place at the Davey Linklater Funeral Home in Kincardine, on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and was followed by the funeral service honouring Jean’s life at 1 p.m.
Interment Kincardine Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Chalmers Community Church, Huron Shores Hospice, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
