Obituary – Grace Kaster

GRACE KASTER
1932-2024

Grace Kaster passed away peacefully on the morning of April 29, 2024 in Brantford General Hospital.
She was born Grace Miriam Miller on Nov.18, 1932 in Rosebank, Ontario to Ross and Charlotte (Hilborn) Miller. Growing up in the country, Grace was happy outdoors, taking long walks, swimming, cycling, skating and skiing. She enjoyed fishing year-round and was a very good trap shooter.
Grace graduated from St. Mary’s Nursing School in 1953. A proud and capable registered nurse, Grace cared for patients at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener Hospital, and as a private nurse. After moving to Kincardine in 1967 she worked for Oltman’s Nursing Home and then part time at her friend Mary Lou McKee’s jewellery store.
On July 3, 1954, Grace married the boy next door, Stewart Kaster, and together they continued their life-long love story. Best friends and partners in a busy life that included three children, fishing and travelling, they took pleasure in being good neighbours, loving parents and grandparents.
Grace and Stewart were a support system for their many friends and extended families within the communities of New Dundee and Kincardine. Grace gave selflessly of her skills and energy to many good causes, including the Kincardine Hospital Gift Shop, and served as a Deaconess at the Kincardine Baptist Church. She contributed to the Salvation Army and to Rosebank Brethren in Christ Church.
Grace was a savvy investor and managed the family finances, having taken several financial courses at the university level. Corresponding with her many friends and family was a life-long endeavour; writing letters in her flowing cursive and then emails on her Mac computer, she shared her sense of humour and sage advice. Family history and genealogy were very important to Grace and she was meticulous at researching and documenting the family ancestry.
Grace leaves behind an adoring family and many friends: her loving husband Stewart, her children Dianne Heath (Jack), Tim Kaster (Kathie) and Jeff Kaster (Susanne), grandchildren Amy Heath, Tyler Kaster (Kayla), Declan Kaster and Sean Kaster, and her two great-grandchildren Eleanor and Henry. She is survived by her brother Perry Miller (Doris).
Please join us in remembering Grace on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa Street South in Kitchener. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. with a service at 11a.m. (officiated by Rev.Michael Kuehl). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or your local food bank.
