ELDON YUNDT
1926-2022
Eldon George Yundt of Walkerton passed away peacefully at Trillium Court in Kincardine on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, shortly before his 96th birthday.
Eldon is dearly missed by Norma, his loving wife of 72 years (“she who must be obeyed”); his children: Jim and his wife Bev MacPherson of Kincardine, Sandie and her husband Doug Evans of Walkerton, Beth of Kincardine, and Tim and his partner Lana Girodat of Neustadt; his grandchildren: Jillene (Bryan Lusk), Kristen (Matt Willis), Greg (Cassandra McMahon), Sam and Tom; and his great-grandchildren: Hank, Walt, Keeva, Beau and Jack.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Edna (n.Debus), two young children Susan and Christopher, and his brothers Pete (Thelma), Jack (Joyce), Newt and Joe.
He is survived by his sister Marlene Young and brother-in-law David of Stratford, sister-in-law Dawnie Yundt of Monkton and his beloved nieces and nephews.
Eldon graduated from the University of Toronto in Civil Engineering in 1948 and was hired in 1955 by the County of Bruce as county engineer in Walkerton, where he worked for 36 years until his retirement in 1991.
Eldon had a resolute and deep faith and a strong commitment to serving the community he so fondly loved. A man never without a smile, he had a zest for life, was always whistling, and loved to sing. For many years he was an enthusiastic member of the choir at St. Paul’s United Church in Walkerton and the Grey Bruce Singers. He was also an active member of the County Town Players in the 1980s, the Kinsmen Club and the Walkerton Horticultural Society, and was a driving force behind the development of the Saugeen River Trail in Walkerton.
We, his family, wish to express our deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and professional staff at Trillium Court, especially the loyal and devoted, loving and hard-working souls in Long Term Care who provided beautiful care to our dad these past six, for which we will always be grateful. Warm thanks and appreciation to the many selfless volunteers who generously and lovingly give of their time, to Dr. Gary Gurbin for his attention and care, and to Pastor Ray Richards for his comforting visits.
A private family service will take place at Walkerton Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held later in September in Walkerton; when available, details will be posted to Eldon’s memorial page at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Sleeping Children Around the World or Walkerton Food Bank would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and donations may be made on Eldon’s memorial page at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com.
I was saddened to learn today of Eldon’s recent passing. He was a dear friend to my parents, Pat and Graham Jackson. He and Norma exemplified the meaning of “true friendship” and I cherish the special times and memories I have of them both!
