He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley; son Randy (Val), of Guelph; daughter Patti (Don) Adair, of Tiverton; and son Rick (Marion), of Toronto.
Beloved grandfather of Matthew (Natalie), Michelle (Taras), Michael (Leona), Sam (Teresa), Lauren, Jennifer and Jillian.
Also survived by his sister Caroline Yundt of Stratford, brother Larry (Jane) of Miller Lake, brother Pat (Marie) of Hepworth, brother-in-law Ross Engel of Monkton and sister-in-law Betty (Gary) Capling of London.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Winnifred; Shirley’s parents, Elsie and Norman Engel; brothers Jack and Jim, sister-in-law Judy Mitchell and brother-in-law Ken Engel.
Bill was a Massey Ferguson farm machinery dealer in Listowel for 25 years and was a member of their Dealer Council. After selling the business in 1977, he was a district sales manager for the Gehl Company, until he retired to Point Clark in 1991.
He was an active member of the Kinsmen and K-40 clubs of Listowel and spent many hours at the Curling Club as both a curler and ice maker. Bill also loved hunting and fishing. Bill and Shirley spent many hours chasing salmon in Lake Huron and delivering tickets for the Chantry Fish Derby.
In retirement, Bill started woodcarving. Their home is adorned with many examples of his work. He also enjoyed reading and following his favorite sports on TV. Some of his happiest times were spent on the deck at their home, surrounded by family or friends, enjoying the beauty of the lake, playing cards and sharing lots of laughs (and maybe a few house drinks) around the firepit.
He will be missed by many friends and family.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service and interment will be held at Pine River Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce or to a charity of your choice as expressions of sympathy, which can be arranged online or by contacting the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home (757 Princes Street, Kincardine ON N2Z 1Z5; 519-396-2701; daveylinklaterfh@tnt21.com).
