Obituary – Beven McLean

BEVEN McLEAN

Beven Bertram McLean passed peacefully in his Kincardine cottage on Jan. 15, 2025, in his 84th year.
Born June 2, 1941 to Sadie and Bert McLean, he leaves his beloved brother William John (Balfour) McLean; his adored son Brok Bertram Russell McLean (Katherine Amanatidis) of Adelaide, Australia; his dear nephew Joel (Lauren) of Malta; dear niece Sheri (Marty Kon) of Toronto; and five wonderful great-nieces: Avery, Alexandra, Elle, Brooklyn and Zoe and great-nephew, Johnny.
Predeceased by sister-in-law Shirley McInnis McLean.
Beven was a natural athlete with an abundance of drive. These qualities earned him a hockey scholarship to the University of Michigan. His keen mind won him a Muir Scholarship from the RBC. He received many awards for outstanding achievement.
After university, Beven and wife Joanne, moved to Australia where he concentrated on property development. An avid follower of world events, Beven hosted many Canadian young folk, encouraging them to see the world.
He enjoyed tennis, golf, cribbage, raising Irish Setters, and driving through the countryside. His passion was travelling. He had visited dozens of countries and hoped for more. He believed that seeing other cultures and landscapes expanded one’s understanding and appreciation of this planet.
For the past several years, Beven had enjoyed spending time with his brother and the company of long-time friend, Sheila Burr.
His joie de vivre, generosity, love of music, nature, and his sense of humour will be missed by those who knew him.
Interment is planned for the spring at the Kincardine Cemetery.
