Obituary – Audrey McKay

AUDREY McKAY

Audrey Marie McKay of Tiverton passed away at South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Kincardine, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in her 90th year.
Beloved wife of the late Angus Junior McKay (Jan. 27, 2022).
Cherished and loved mother of Sandra Smith, Lori Reid, the late John McKay (2021) and a beloved little girl Joanie (1960).
Proud Grandma of grandchildren Josie Venn-Hershey (Tyler), Jeanna Crawford (Sean), Alexina Aikens (Brian), Chad Smith (Rayleen), William Hazen (Jacqui), Thomas Hazen and Michael Hazen and of 16 great-grandchildren.
Audrey is survived by her sisters Grace MacPherson (the late Stuart), Bernice Zuber (the late Jim), Elsie Jenkins (Earl) and Sheila Rintoul (Paul).
Fondly remembered by many loved nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.
Predeceased by her parents John and Ruby (née Caslick) White, brother Gordon White (Marlene) and in-laws: Mary Roppel (Wes), Christena Roppel (Art), Gladys Emmerton (Wib), Bernice Burt (Bill), Cliff McKay (Marj) and Mildred Bonnett (Les),
Audrey was proud to have farmed beside her beloved husband from the time of their marriage in 1954 until early 2000, when they sold the farm and moved to Kincardine. She drove school bus for many years, and still appreciated seeing the Big Yellow Buses. Of course, she also had the long-time career of being the homemaker – with great meals for her family every day and anyone who was around or dropped in. The baking was always topnotch and plentiful, with butter tarts being probably the most popular far and wide, however, the pies were always great, too.
The farm with Grandma and Grandpa was always a special place for her grandchildren, some of whom spent countless hours there, and others who were excited to get there anytime possible.
Audrey was well-known for her happy personality, always a smile and chuckle, as anyone who knew her could attest to. Together with Junior, they spent many hours socializing and playing cards with the many friends they acquired through their long happy lives.
Visitation was held from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home. The funeral service to honour Audrey’s life was conducted from Knox Presbyterian Church, Tiverton at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, with Rev. Rick Warne officiating.
Interment Tiverton Cemetery.
If so desired, donations in Audrey’s memory to Tiverton Knox Presbyterian Church or Huron Shores Hospice would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.
