ANTJE HUNTER
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Antje Emma Hunter (née Stahlmann), of Ripley and formerly of Hanover, announces her passing on Nov. 4, 2021 at the Southampton Care Centre, at the age of 77.
Beloved wife of Murray Hunter.
Greatly missed by daughter Lisa Knapp and grandson Aidan Le Guillou, and by daughter Theresa Knapp and grandsons Michel and Patrick Coleman.
Lovingly remembered by her brothers Ingo (Onia) and Gus.
Also survived by step-children Michael (Paulette) and Kerry Lynne (Doug); grandchildren Brody (Taylor), Cole, Keiffer, Brontae and Landon; great-grandsons Easton and Maverick; sisters-in-law Shirley (Dave), Betty (Ralph) and Kathleen; several Stahlmann and Hunter nieces and nephews, as well as the Donaldson family.
Predeceased by her parents Lotti (née Gramlich) and Wilhelm Stahlmann, and by sister-in-law Jan (Gus) Stahlmann.
Born in Wintershagen, Germany on March 14, 1944, Antje came to Canada with her family at the age of 11. She spent her earlier years working various jobs to help support her mother, father and younger brothers. Following the adoption of her two children and staying home to raise them to school-age, she then joined Hanover Kitchens where she found her appreciation for fine woodwork, developed her skills as a cabinet maker, and acquired a particular aptitude for sanding and staining techniques. After 25 years, and at retirement, she went on to start up her own home craft business, selling her creations locally. Finally, it was the arrival of her grandchildren and her love of gardening that occupied her time.
Living with Alzheimer’s since her late sixties, Antje faced her declining health with courage until her recent release; she can now rest in peace.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Southampton Care Centre for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be considered for the medical equipment fund of the Kincardine Legion – Branch 183, Pine River United Church or the Southampton Care Centre Residents Fund to support the needs of others.
A private funeral service was held at the MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021. Interment followed at the Kincardine Cemetery.
