Lots of champions By Doug Kennedy

There are two new winners at the Kincardine Golf and Country Club which hosted its club championship this past weekend. The men’s winner was Mike McDonald, who fought back from being three strokes back after Saturday, to top over last year’s winner, Darren Fritz. Bill Shewfelt and Jake Colley finished in the top four. Regan McIntosh won the ladies division, defeating long-time champion Judy Hunter.
The Kincardine golf course is hosting a couples night this Friday, starting at 5:30 p.m. They are also holding a 6-6-6- tournament that starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Just Call the Proshop at 519-396-2112 to sign up.

What about Listowel’s Corey Conners? He just finished 23rd in the Fedex cup this past weekend. That puts him in the final tournament this coming weekend in Atlanta, where he will meet up with the top 30 golfers from the season. This is a big money ending with around $37 million going to these top players; last place still nets you around $40,000! Corey has won $2.9 million already this year – not bad for a kid that grew up in Listowel.
This week Fedex leader Justin Thomas starts at -10, while Connors, ranked 23rd, starts at -1. It will be interesting to watch. This might also give Corey a chance to get picked by Team International for this year’s Ryder Cup.

McKinna Colley’s Ontario West Rugby team lost to Quebec in the eastern Canada U18 championships last week in Kingston. It was a really good week for McKinna as she was scouted by Team Canada coach Ricky Coombe and was invited to their camp at Brock University where they will compete against the Eastern USA team. Jen Cook from the Co-operators sponsored McKinna to take part in this event.

Mitchell won the Midget All-Ontario championship held in Kincardine. The team went undefeated, coming back from a 7-1 deficit to Corunna in the final to win. Corunna would have had to defeat Mitchell twice to win the true double knockout tournament. Kincardine lost two games to St. Marys then defeated Port Dover and Listowel.
