Enhanced safety features to help keep piers open
Kincardine council agreed to add $92,000 into this year’s budget, after hearing recommendations by the Pier Safety Ad-Hoc Committee that presented their findings at last week’s council meeting. Councillor Rory Cavanagh spoke on behalf of the committee, and said while visitors and residents alike love the waterfront, Lake Huron also presents dangerous and life-threatening situations. High winds, strong currents and breaking waves, together with strong currents found around the piers make it especially dangerous for swimmers. (By Liz Small)
