Grey Bruce Public Health receives draft 2024 budget as merger discussion continues

The highlight of the Feb. 23 meeting of the Grey- Bruce board of health was the draft 2024 budget. The budget presentation came as the board moves forward with the province’s plan to reduce the number of health units across the province through voluntary (at this point) amalgamations.

The 2024 budget, presented by Kim Rutherford, senior finance manager, first outlined the strategies taken in this year’s budget, one being “investing in program areas that have the most impact, and disinvesting in programs that have the least impact,” as well as “retaining as many staff as possible until we have clearer direction on changes to the standards.” By “standards,” she referred to the tasks required of public health.
