After a COVID-19-related hiatus, Grey Bruce Public Health is again looking at the prospect of
amalgamating with another health unit or units, either voluntarily or by being “voluntold.”
Sue Paterson and Helen-Claire Tingling, both members of the local board of health, attended an
announcement to the Association of Local Public Health Agencies on Aug. 31.
Paterson, mayor of Hanover, confirmed that voluntary amalgamations of health units is in the
works, followed by “voluntold” amalgamations, to reduce the number of health units in the province from the present 34 to 10. She also said that any health unit covering an area with a population of less than 500,000 should merge with another health unit or units.
