Downtown Dig Update – April 19

by Liz Small
Update on parking

The downtown dig is continuing as scheduled and as crews work on replacement of sanitary sewer lines and temporary waterline connections, drivers should note some changes in on-street parking. During phase 1 of the construction, parking is permitted between Lambton and Harbour streets. Vehicles should park facing south on both sides of the road, exiting through the municipal lane/parking lot towards Princes Street to avoid u-turns. There will be additional signage installed to assist drivers.

Increased dump truck traffic

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to use extra caution in and around the construction area downtown. There will be an increase in dump truck traffic, as large amounts of excavated material are being removed. The trucks will come from the north end of Queen St, turning at the Lambton St. intersection, backing into the construction zone. The trucks will then back in from the Durham Market Square South intersection to receive the materials, before heading south on Queen Street.
