Predeceased by his parents J. Mervin Funston and Margaret Anne “Midge” (Smith) Funston. Ron was born and raised in Huron Township. He attended public school at SS #5 Huron and Ripley District High School. Ron started a career in banking but soon learned that farming was his life. In 1971, he took over as the fourth generation owner of the family farm on Concession 6, and he farmed for over 50 years. He moved to Point Clark when his son Dean took over the farm, but he always found an excuse to continue getting on a tractor. He clocked many miles driving commercial tractor trailers as a short-haul trucker. He was an avid curler and an active, long-standing member of Pine River United Church. He enjoyed the people in his community and was always ready to offer support.
Arrangements entrusted to MacKenzie & McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022 at Pine River United Church, where the funeral service was conducted at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Wonder Chimvinga officiating. Interment RipleymCemetery.
