Obituary – Dorothy Partington (Walden)

DOROTHY PARTINGTON (WALDEN)
April 17, 1921- March 25, 2025

Dorothy Mary Wall Partington passed away on March 25, 2025 in Kelowna, BC, in her 104th year.
Born in Huron Township, she was the eldest child of Alfred and Annie Walden (née Pollock). Sibling of seven other children who survived infancy: Leroy, Carl, Ernest, Ivan, Ray, Eugene and sister Evylene.
Dorothy was a mother of three: Jim (Heather), Linda and Tim (Katharine); grandmother to Jake (Christina), Matt and Nick; and great-grandmother to Willow and Wolfie.
She married CC (Corey) Wall in 1944 after nursing him in Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital and accepting his proposal under a “blue moon” on Bruce Beach. They spent many happy years in Arvida, PQ and Calcutta (now Kolkata), India during their “Alcan” years. Later, Corey had assignments and they had adventures in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Egypt. After Corey’s death she married Don Partington in 1999, living in Ottawa and Kelowna, but enjoying travel to points south, Europe and Africa.
Dorothy outlived her good friends, but she will be dearly missed by her close and extended family. She was fond of and followed the news of her many Wall and Walden nieces and nephews. She was intelligent, inquisitive, keen to learn through literature and travel and dedicated to completing tough crossword puzzles daily and playing bridge. She had firm views and was known to express them in letters to the editor of the Globe and Mail.
She was practical, positive, resilient and forward-looking about life’s trajectory. At the end of her life’s journey, with a broken hip and just before her 104th birthday, she said “It is a nice spring day and I am grateful to be alive.” She was an inspiration to all and she will be lovingly remembered.
A private memorial will be held near Kincardine in August.
