From her office on Lambton Street, lawyer Andrea Clarke has witnessed firsthand how quiet the streets have become and has sympathy for the many downtown businesses that have had to close their doors during COVID-19.
“My heart goes out to a town that has literally shut down,” said Clarke. “What can I do to help?”
To show her support for her neighbours, and encourage the public to celebrate the slow-but-sure opening of the downtown by shopping locally, Clarke devised a contest to reward residents who shop.
She has challenged anyone who has spent $50 or more at a local business to send her a message, by email (office@clarke-law.ca) or Facebook, describing their purchase. Every submission she receives before noon on June 19 will have their name entered in a draw. That afternoon, she will draw two names, and the winners will receive a gift package valued at a minimum of $50.
Clarke, who is new to the community herself, knows that retailers and restaurants face a huge set of challenges as they navigate how to sell their products and services while respecting guidelines set out by public health.
“If everyone can do their bit we can help bring these businesses back,” said Clarke.
