ALMA GILLIES

 

Alma E. Gillies (née Henderson), beloved wife of the late Donald Gillies, formerly of Ripley, passed away peacefully at Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in her 87th year.

She was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Huron Township to the late Irene (Mills) and William Henderson.

Greatly missed by daughter Valerie (David) Gibson, of R.R. 2, Ripley; and by grandchildren: Dan (Trina) Gibson, of London; and Julie (Joseph) Angilella, of Doha, Qatar; and by great grandchildren Beverly, Chloe and Macayla.

Also survived by sister-in-law Evelyn Henderson, of Kincardine, as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by siblings Garnet Henderson, Calvin Henderson and Eudora Owens.

Visitation was held from 2-5 p.m. at the MacKenzie and McCreath Funeral Home, Ripley, on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009. The funeral service was held from the chapel on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, with long-time friend Betty Elliott officiating. Words of remembrance were given by granddaughter Julie and by nephew Paul Henderson.

Pallbearers were Donald Farrell, Larry Carter, Brian MacKay, Mike Pollock, Ken Willoughby and Fred Henderson.

Spring interment Ripley cemetery.

JOHN LOWE

 

John Wellington Lowe, of Kincardine, died at the Wingham and District Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in his 67th year.

Predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Ida; his sister Frances; infant brother Frederick; and brother-in-law William Davey.

Survived by his sisters Ruth Davey, of Chesley; and Isabel (James) Bullock, of Inverhuron.

John was a much loved and cherished friend of the Raspberry family: Paulette and Lloyd, Jenny (Casey Martin and Lily) and Josh (Alissa Paxton). He will also be missed by his Community Living friends.

John was a man of few words, but he expressed himself very well with his smile and the twinkle in his eye.

Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2 p.m., with Rev. Don Harry officiating.

GENE MacKINNON

 

 

Gene Alison (née Lewis) MacKinnon died of cardiac arrest at home in Guelph on Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at the age of 79.

For over a half century, she gloriously joined with Archie MacKinnon in the great adventure of life, in company with a widely scattered family: Rory (Marlene), Ian  (Johanna), Hugh, and Colum ( Sue).  As well as eight grandchildren: Dylan, Clayton, Archie, Luke, Jillian, Thomas, Jack and sadly Carly (1992-1995).

Cremation has taken place.

A private family gathering was held on Jan. 1, 2009.

Once the blasts of winter have passed, other gatherings will take place in Tiverton and Sparta. Details at a later date. Donations, if desired, to a charity of one’s choice (even if the cause be yourself) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

RENÉ POIRIER

 

René Alexis Poirier, of Kincardine, died at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton, on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, in his 86th year.

Beloved husband of the late Therese (née Godmaire). 

Dear father of Normand (Marilyn), of R.R. 2, Tiverton; Jocelyne (Bill) Owens, of Cargill; and Cam (Brenda), of Mount Brydges. Cherished grandfather of Melanie and Daniel. 

Sadly missed by his sisters: Lise (Denis) Pion, of Quebec, and Simonne Poirier, of Quebec; and by his brother, Jean Guy, of Edmonton. 

Predeceased by his sister Merilda Poirier, and brothers: Roger (Fernande), Rheal (Henriette), and Marcel (Laurette).  Visitation was held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  The funeral mass was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Kincardine, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009.

GRACE SCHMIDT

Grace Schmidt, died peacefully at the South Bruce-Grey Health Centre - Walkerton, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in her 90th year.

The former Grace MacKay, of Walkerton. Beloved wife of the late Howard Schmidt. Loving mother of Robert, and his wife Murda, of Newmarket; and Sharon Hunter, of Tiverton.

Also survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sister-in-law of Marian Schnittker and Minnie Campbell, both of Kincardine, and Vera MacKay of Michigan.

She was predeceased by her son Allan Schmidt.

Visitation was held at the W. Kent Milroy Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin (Town of Saugeen Shores),on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, from noon until the time of the funeral service which was conducted at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Chuck Moon officiating.

Interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.
